BSF foils Gold smuggling attempt, Seizes 1.17 Kg gold worth Rs. 86.87 Lakh on India Bangladesh border

The vigilant jawans of Border Outpost Madhupur, 68th Battalion under BSF South Bengal Frontier foiled gold smuggling attempt on the India Bangladesh border in District Nadia, West Bengal and seized 10 gold biscuits when the smugglers were trying to smuggle these gold biscuits from Bangladesh to India by throwing them over the border fencing. The total weight of the seized gold biscuits is 1.17 kg and the estimated value is 86.87 Lakh.

According to the information, the BSF Intelligence Department gave concrete information about gold smuggling to the jawans of Border Outpost Madhupur, 68th Battalion. On receiving the information, all the jawans deployed on duty were alerted. During duty, the women jawans saw some suspicious persons moving towards India near the bridge of Betna river. The lady constable along with her fellow jawan immediately rushed to the spot and challenged the smugglers who were trying to reach the IBBR and cordoned off the area. Seeing this, the smugglers panicked and fled from the spot taking advantage of the darkness. After this, a thorough search was conducted in the surrounding area along with the QRT. During the search, a plastic packet was found lying on the grassy area on the IBBR. On opening it, 10 gold biscuits were recovered from it. The gold biscuits were seized and brought to BOP Madhupur for further action.

The seized gold has been handed over to the Customs Department, Bagdah for further action.

The Public Relations Officer of BSF, South Bengal Frontier expressed satisfaction over the successful operation by the BSF personnel. He emphasized the commitment of BSF to take strict action against smuggling activities. He urged the border residents to give any information related to gold smuggling to BSF’s Seema Sathi Helpline Number 14419 or 9903472227 through WhatsApp message or voice message. Sufficient reward will be given for giving concrete information and the identity of the informer will be kept confidential.
